Railroad passenger numbers started to increase in the 1800s, and Niagara Falls would soon become one of the hit sites for tourists from all over the world. Before long, locals and international business moguls started to set up merchant shops around the area to cater to the needs of the increased traffic. Records showed that many of the couples who visited the area and the falls alike were on their honeymoon, which gave businesses a push in the right direction in knowing what to market.
