A Strange Feeling
The duo was used to spending their time hiking through forests and open fields, so today was no different than any other day. Smith was slightly perplexed by the behavior of his beloved dog, Kyle. The dog had been acting more nervous than usual, and seemed to be following a scent in the air. Was this just a reflex response from his days in the service, or was he about to uncover something shocking right here and now?

Kyle had been assigned to two other families before he became a part of Smith and his family. In his time with these families, he always seemed to maintain that curiosity about anything he smelled, and was often restless when he entered public spaces. As Smith could tell right from when he first adopted Kyle, this might have retired from service, but he would always be on active duty in some way just by following his nose on their walks.
